Regional community funds announced in UK and Australia

Two separate regional funding initiatives have been announced to support community projects and residents in the United Kingdom and Australia.

In the North East of England, Mayor Kim McGuinness has released the fourth round of the £1 million Mayor’s Opportunity Fund. The initiative targets households facing food insecurity and financial hardship. Recipients include the Fenham Association of Residents, which will launch a community food hub, and the Foundations Furniture and Gardening Project in Gateshead. Other supported projects include community pantries, debt advice, and transport assistance through Wheels2Work County Durham.

In Newcastle, Australia, the Port Community Contribution Fund is expanding its reach. Following community feedback, the fund has extended eligibility to 12 additional suburbs and precincts. The program offers grants ranging from $25,000 to $250,000 for projects aimed at improving community infrastructure, public spaces, and local attractions. The fund was established as part of the long-term lease of the Port of Newcastle and has invested over $9.8 million in previous rounds.
