Regional connections and cultural identity in Europe
Various personal narratives highlight long-standing connections to specific regions and the enduring nature of cultural identity.
In Lopar, Croatia, Petra and Wolfgang Kastl were honored by the Lopar Municipal Tourist Board for visiting the area for 50 consecutive years. The couple, hosted by the Franelić family for many of those years, returns twice annually to enjoy the local beaches and atmosphere.
In a separate reflection on diaspora life, Almir Bašović describes the experience of Florian, a Sarajevo native living in Vienna, Austria. Despite living in Vienna for five years, Florian continues to experience frequent cultural flashes of his hometown, such as recognizing Sarajevo-specific street layouts or using local dialect and customs in his daily life in Austria.
