Regional councils hold mayoral and deputy mayor elections

Throughout September, several regional councils have conducted votes to determine mayors and deputy mayors for the upcoming two-year term.

In Bathurst, Ben Fry was elected mayor following five years as deputy mayor, receiving votes from himself and councillors Warren Aubin, Natalie Cranston, Tony Gullifer, and Sophie Wright. The incumbent mayor, Robert Taylor, received support from Nick Packham, Jac Underwood, and Elaine West.

In Blayney, Bruce Reynolds was re-elected unopposed as mayor, while John Newstead secured the deputy mayor position with a 4-3 ballot vote against incumbent Rebecca Scott. In Cabonne, Jamie Jones and Kevin Beatty will serve another term together as the mayor and deputy mayor duo.

Other pending or recently decided leadership roles include positions in Dubbo, Mid-Western, Parkes, and Orange. In Orange, the mayoral position is held by Tony Mileto, who was decided by public vote during the 2024 election.
