Regional councils in New South Wales are undergoing leadership transitions. In the Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Charlie Simkin has been elected mayor for a two-year term following a vote against incumbent Ken Cudmore. Jason Allan was elected unopposed as deputy mayor.

In Bathurst, an election is scheduled for September 16, 2026. Current deputy mayor Ben Fry has announced his candidacy for mayor, proposing an alliance with councillor Sophie Wright for the deputy mayor position. Fry stated the partnership aims to refresh and reform the council despite their history of differing views.

Other regional councils, including Tamworth, Narrabri, Gunnedah, Moree, Inverell, Tenterfield, Armidale, Gwydir, and Glen Innes Severn, are also in periods of leadership transition or scheduled to hold upcoming votes.
