Regional culinary traditions promoted in Venezuela and Dominican Republic
Regional culinary traditions are being highlighted through various initiatives in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic to promote local culture and sustainable practices.
In Ocumare de la Costa de Oro, Venezuela, the Feria de la Dulcería Criolla y Artesanos was held at the Malecón del Playón. The event showcased traditional sweets such as coconut and passion fruit preserves, majarete, and chocolate cakes, alongside local artisanal crafts. Delia Torrealba, the Aragua State Tourism Authority official, noted that the fair aims to boost the local economy and preserve regional heritage as part of a broader plan to expand gastronomic corridors throughout the state.
In Samaná, Dominican Republic, the third edition of the ‘Plato del Verano’ competition is underway. Nine local restaurants are participating in the initiative, which focuses on sustainable gastronomy by using seasonal, local ingredients like mango, seafood, and coconut. The competition emphasizes environmental responsibility, including the avoidance of plastics and adherence to fishing seasons. The winner will be determined by a combination of technical jury scores and public voting via QR codes.
