Regional cultural and educational events scheduled for August 2026

In late August 2026, two distinct cultural and educational events will take place in Central Europe.

In Košice, Slovakia, the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy is hosting the first VetNEST summer school focused on falconry and the rehabilitation of birds of prey. Eleven students from seven countries—Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, and Serbia—will participate in the intensive course. The program covers theoretical and practical skills, including the examination, treatment, and first aid of injured raptors, as well as the management of birds in captivity.

Simultaneously, the 12th Woodcarving Symposium will be held in the Czech Republic near Zoo Hluboká and the National Agricultural Museum Ohrada. The event features Czech and Slovak artists who will transform wood into art using chainsaws and other tools. This year's theme is connected to the animal kingdom. The symposium will conclude with an exhibition of finished sculptures and a display of historical saws and axes.
