Regional cycling campaigns launch in Antwerp and Groningen
Regional authorities in Belgium and the Netherlands are launching new initiatives to promote cycling. In the Antwerp region, a safety campaign titled ‘Snelheid voelt goed, aankomen voelt beter’ (Speed feels good, arriving feels better) begins in mid-September. The campaign, supported by the Flemish government, Voka, and the Province of Antwerp, aims to prepare cyclists for autumn conditions such as reduced daylight, rain, and fog. It emphasizes technical maintenance, proper lighting, visibility through reflective clothing, and adjusted riding styles to prevent accidents.
In the Netherlands, all ten municipalities in the Province of Groningen are participating in the ‘Kort ritje? Da’s zo gefietst!’ campaign until September 23. The initiative encourages residents to replace short car trips of up to 7.5 kilometers with cycling to improve health, reduce environmental impact, and alleviate traffic congestion. The campaign utilizes roadside signage, social media, and a dedicated mobile app that allows users to earn rewards for cycling.
