Regional dance festivals showcase cultural traditions in Mexico and Venezuela

The Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Guanajuato (BAFUG) performed at the Festival Internacional Cervantino at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas. Directed by Roberto Martínez Rocha, the two-hour program, titled ‘El tradicional ritmo de los norteños’, showcased dance traditions from northern Mexico, including regions such as Nuevo León, Chihuahua, and Tamaulipas. The performance highlighted the cultural fusion of European influences, such as the accordion, polka, redova, and schottische, into Mexican identity.

In Venezuela, the second edition of the Festival Nacional Géneros took place in San Cristóbal. Organized by Danzas Nacionalistas Manolo Moros, the event featured dance groups from Capacho Nuevo, Junín, Fernández Feo, and San Cristóbal. Competitions were held in child and youth quartet categories as well as female soloists. The academy Dance With Me secured first place in both the child and youth group categories, as well as the award for best dancer.
