Regional developments in Central and East Africa
In Central Africa, the Republic of the Congo’s Ministry of Health and the World Food Programme have signed a partnership to strengthen nutritional care. The agreement focuses on improving care for vulnerable groups, consolidating health circuits, anticipating emergencies, and coordinating field interventions.
In East Africa, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the Bundibugyo Ebola virus outbreak as a regional emergency. Originally detected in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, the outbreak has spread to neighboring countries, including Kenya, prompting calls for enhanced cross-border surveillance.
Climate concerns are rising in the Horn of Africa, where humanitarian agencies warn that nearly 875,000 people in Somalia risk displacement by the end of 2026 due to heavy rains driven by El Niño.
Other regional updates include Gabon’s issuance of over 16,000 land titles as part of a property management modernization program, and preparations in Angola for the Africa Financial Summit (AFIS) scheduled for November, which aims to harmonize stock market rules across Central and Southern Africa.
