Regional developments in Italian childcare and maternity services
In Barolo, a new municipal micronido named ‘Gigi Pira’ is set to open on September 1. The facility will provide 15 places for early childhood care, aiming to create continuity in the educational path from infancy through middle school. The project, which utilizes land donated by local benefactor Gigi Pira, has already seen significant interest with approximately 20 requests for the available spots.
Meanwhile, in the province of Salerno, the Order of Nursing Professions (OPI) has raised alarms regarding the management of maternity services. The organization reported instability and a lack of strategic planning due to the frequent relocation of maternity activities between facilities in Polla and Nocera. Cosimo Cicia, President of OPI Salerno, described the situation as ‘total confusion,’ noting that the constant movement of patients and professionals compromises the quality of care for mothers and newborns.
