Regional developments in Kraków and Ruda Śląska

In Kraków, a developer has requested permission from the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection to cull six beavers and destroy their dams and lodges near Obozowa Street. Environmental groups, including the association ‘Nasz Bóbr’, and local politicians are intervening, arguing that the developer’s decision to build residential blocks and underground garages near a watercourse caused moisture issues that the beavers' presence actually helped mitigate through natural water retention.

In Ruda Śląska, city authorities are conducting inspections of 108 collective protection facilities and shelters to ensure emergency readiness. Supported by the Population Protection and Civil Defense Program, technical expertise is being commissioned for several buildings. Officials have also issued an appeal to residents to keep basement corridors clear to ensure safe evacuation routes.

Additionally, the Dismantling Centers Branch in Ruda Śląska has been named the ‘Silesian Film Location 2026’ after winning a regional plebiscite organized by the Silesia Film Commission. The industrial site, located on former mining lands, secured 33.8 percent of the vote due to its architectural and historical potential for film productions.
