Regional emergency relief funds approved in Chile and proposed in Colombia

In Chile, the La Araucanía Regional Council has unanimously approved 2,061 million pesos to address an agro-climatic emergency. The funds aim to assist 3,750 producers affected by heavy rains, snow, floods, and strong winds recorded during July and August. The resources will finance animal feed, emergency veterinary operations, and the reconstruction of 3,667 greenhouses through INDAP, the Undersecretary of Agriculture, and SAG.

In Colombia, Bogotá Councilman Julián Triana has proposed creating a humanitarian fund as part of the city's ongoing tax reform debate. Following an earthquake on August 10, Triana suggested allocating 18,000 million pesos—approximately 1.5% of the projected 1.2 trillion peso revenue—to support communities and animals affected by the tragedy. The proposal seeks to channel resources to urgent needs and allow for contributions from citizens, companies, and international donors, though the reform faces opposition from council members who wish to prioritize the national emergency over tax discussions.
