Regional energy planning initiatives launched in Mexico and Chile
In Baja California Sur, Mexico, authorities and academic specialists from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS) have presented the 'Atlas Energético de BCS'. Coordinated by the SEPUIMM, this technical tool is designed to analyze electrical infrastructure, transmission networks, and generation plants. The atlas aims to strengthen territorial planning by identifying areas with high potential for renewable energy development and evaluating the state's overall energy resources.
In Chile, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) organized the 'Energía para el Territorio' seminar to address public lighting management in the Valparaíso Region. The event brought together representatives from 23 municipalities, the SEREMI de Energía, and the Superintendencia de Electricidad y Combustibles (SEC). Discussions focused on improving energy efficiency and reducing municipal costs, specifically exploring how local governments can transition from regulated pricing to free-market energy contracts to achieve significant savings.
