Regional festivals showcase local agriculture and seafood in Japan
Local festivals in Kikonai and Kesennuma highlighted regional industries through food and cultural events.
In Kikonai, Hokkaido, the 5th Kikonai Grand Industry Charm Fair was held at the Town Family Sports Center. The event featured Hakodate Wagyu beef, fresh fish, and local agricultural products. Attendees participated in various activities, including tastings of new local menu items like Kikonai miso zangi, as well as competitions involving rice scooping and large-scale eating contests.
In Kesennuma, Miyagi, the 40th Kesennuma City Industry Festival took place at the Kesennuma City Fish Market. The festival offered a wide range of local products, including Pacific saury, swordfish, and bonito, at special prices. The event included a market breakfast featuring local ingredients, drum performances, and guided tours of the highly hygienic fish market facility, which was rebuilt following the Great East Japan Earthquake.
