Nanying International Folk Art Festival marks 30th anniversary in Tainan

The 30th Nanying International Folk Art Festival concluded in Tainan, Taiwan, following a nine-day celebration from October 17 to 25. The event featured 49 performance groups from 20 countries across four continents, attracting approximately 150,000 attendees.

As part of its 30th anniversary, the festival included international performances, regional tours, and cultural exchange activities. Despite the cancellation of five local tour dates due to Typhoon Plumb, the event successfully utilized dual stages, known as the ‘Nanying Stage’ and ‘Xinying Stage,’ to showcase diverse global folk arts.

The festival was selected for the Ministry of Culture’s inaugural ‘International Arts Festival Celebration Enhancement Program,’ which aims to increase the international visibility of Taiwanese cultural events. The closing ceremony featured a grand performance by 21 international teams, concluding with a traditional Japanese Taiko drum performance by ‘Kobudance Saru’.
