Regional forums address climate resilience in Tunis and Dakar
Regional forums in Tunis and Dakar are addressing climate change resilience and disaster preparedness across the Arab region and the Sahel.
In Tunis, the second Arab Regional Forum on Early Warning Systems and Disaster Preparedness opened on October 12, 2026. The event focuses on mitigating risks from floods, droughts, and earthquakes. Mohamed Salah Ben Aïssa, Deputy Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, noted that climate risk prevention is becoming a structural element of regional economic and climate policies. In Tunisia, officials highlighted the urgent need to re-evaluate flood risks and implement the “Resilience” program to reduce damage from extreme weather events.
Simultaneously, the second Forum of Actors for Sustainable Natural Resource Management in the Sahel convened in Dakar, Senegal. The meeting aims to build partnerships to strengthen the Sahel's resilience against climate change, which has contributed to food insecurity in the region. Ousseini Ouédraogo, Executive Secretary of the Network of West African Farmer and Producer Organizations (ROPPA), stated that the forum seeks to identify innovations and share experiences to support impacted communities.
