Regional German initiatives promote youth fitness through sports badges

Various regional initiatives in Germany are promoting physical activity among young children through specialized sports badges.

In Erkrath, the Lott-jonn initiative by the Mettmann District Health Office organized a mini sports badge event at the Toni-Turek-Stadion. Approximately 190 children from nine daycare centers participated in various activities, including running and throwing exercises. The event was supported by students from the Hochdahl and Am Neandertal gymnasiums, who assisted in guiding the children through the course. This initiative has been active for 16 years, reaching nearly 27,000 children in the district.

In Reken, the AWO Kita Lindenweg and TSG Reken collaborated to host the Children's Movement Badge (KiBaZ) event. This program, offered by the Sportjugend Nordrhein-Westfalen, focuses on children aged three to six. The event featured ten movement stations designed to improve coordination and motor skills through play rather than competition. A total of 97 children received movement badges, certificates, and small surprises from the State Sports Federation.
