Regional health authorities expand telemedicine and digital platforms

Various regional health authorities are implementing digital platforms and telemedicine tools to improve medical access and streamline patient care.

In Misiones, Argentina, the Ministry of Public Health is preparing to launch a new provincial application to replace Alegramed. The new tool aims to expand telemedicine capabilities and integrate more medical specialties. Nearly 80% of the province's primary health centers and hospitals are already connected to the Misiones Health Information Network (RISMI), which manages unified electronic health records.

In Chile, the Talca Regional Hospital has launched a pilot program in San Clemente to bring rheumatology services closer to the community. Using the Ministry of Health’s ‘Hospital Digital’ platform, local doctors can conduct follow-up appointments and upload clinical data for review by specialists in Talca, reducing the need for patient travel.

In Santa Cruz, Argentina, the regional government has deployed a telemedicine system featuring specialized kiosks (tótems) in hospitals and health centers. These devices serve as a complement to in-person care, allowing patients to consult with doctors for non-emergency issues, receive digital prescriptions, and manage scheduled specialist appointments.
