Regional health initiatives launch to combat cervical cancer

Regional health authorities in Argentina and Chile have launched new initiatives aimed at preventing and eliminating cervical cancer through HPV-related strategies.

In Esquel, Chubut, the provincial government has implemented a plan focused on the early detection of cervical cancer. The program targets women aged 30 to 65 and is being rolled out across several primary health centers. A notable feature of this initiative is the introduction of a self-sampling method, allowing women to collect their own vaginal samples in private spaces to increase accessibility and autonomy.

In Chile, the municipality of La Pintana has launched the ‘Zero Cervical Cancer’ program. This comprehensive strategy aligns with World Health Organization goals to eliminate the disease by 2030. The plan includes a mobile gynecological clinic, expanded testing, and free HPV vaccinations for women aged 25 to 64, specifically targeting those not covered by the national immunization program.
