Regional Historical Museum Veliko Tarnovo to unveil new 2026 acquisitions
The Regional Historical Museum in Veliko Tarnovo will host an exhibition titled ‘Together to Preserve Historical Memory’ to showcase new additions to its collections from 2026. The event is scheduled to open on November 2 at the ‘Renaissance and Constituent Assembly’ museum.
Over 40 donors contributed more than 250 museum units to the institution's funds and library during 2026. These items include archaeological finds from the 2nd–3rd centuries, weapons, ethnographic materials, furniture, jewelry, documents, and literature. The exhibition, themed ‘Testimonies of History: Donated, Acquired, Saved’, will also feature cultural values obtained through purchases or transferred from the Ministry of Interior and judicial institutions.
Notable items include a gold coin of Eastern Roman Emperor Zeno (474–491 AD), ancient fibulae, medieval rings, and a medallion with an embedded coin. Ethnographic additions include a metal candlestick and a cauldron hook from the Renaissance era. The display will also feature recent archaeological findings from Nicopolis ad Istrum, medieval churches in Shushmanets and Frankhisar, and a prehistoric settlement mound near Petko Karavelovo.
