Regional improvements in Catalonia social services and recycling rates

In the Garraf region of Catalonia, social service improvements have led to an 84.21% reduction in the dependency waiting list for the municipalities of Canyelles, Cubelles, and Olivella. The improvement plan, managed by the Consell Comarcal del Garraf, aimed to address rising demand caused by an aging population. Pending files for Individual Care Plans (PIA) have dropped from 228 in January to 36 currently. Additionally, ten new hybrid vehicles have been introduced to support home care services.

In Les Borges Blanques, the implementation of a new door-to-door waste collection system has increased selective recycling rates from 40.60% in June to 75.23% in August. This surpasses the local government's 70% target. The shift from the traditional container island model was driven by legal and economic necessity, following over 811,000 euros in fines accumulated by the municipality over the last decade due to landfill waste fees.
