Regional Indonesian festivals promote economic growth and cultural identity
Regional cultural festivals in Indonesia are being highlighted for their potential to drive local economies and strengthen national character. In Sumenep, the Madura Culture Festival 2026 includes a Village Tourism Festival designed to showcase local potential, including natural attractions, history, and religious destinations. Sumenep Regent Achmad Fauzi Wongsojudo stated that the event aims to stimulate creativity and boost the welfare of local communities and MSMEs by turning local products into high-value tourism draws.
In Central Java, the Bisik Serayu Festival 2026 is being recognized by DPR member Siti Mukaromah as a means to reinforce national character through the values of the Banyumas people. The festival draws on three philosophical pillars: the strength of Mount Slamet, the fluidity and harmony of the Serayu River, and the honesty of the 'blakasuta' character. The event seeks to integrate art, culture, and environmental awareness to foster regional identity and community involvement.
