Regional industrial and academic policy updates in Spain

In Galicia, the Xunta is finalizing the ‘Galicia Industria 360’ program to attract and consolidate industrial companies. The initiative focuses on providing ‘ready-to-use warehouses’ and streamlined infrastructure processing to reduce implementation times for new businesses. As part of the upcoming budget, the public company Xestur will see its funding increase by 36% to 45.66 million euros, aiming to expand developed industrial land from approximately 328,203 square meters in 2026 to 886,861 square meters in 2027, with a long-term goal of reaching 12 million square meters by 2030.

In Andalusia, the regional government is proposing a new funding model for public universities that links financial support to specific performance indicators. Counselor Jorge Paradela met with university rectors to discuss a strategy to attract and retain talent through 2030. The proposed framework aims to tie funding to success metrics, such as improvements in scientific and university rankings, academic performance rates, and the increased presence of women in STEM fields.
