Regional initiatives launch to support small businesses and employment
Various regional governments and institutions in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia have launched initiatives to support small and medium-sized enterprises (Mipymes) and employment.
In Baja California, Mexico, the state government has allocated over 95.8 million pesos to support 986 Mipymes. According to Secretary of Economy and Innovation Kurt Honold Morales, between January and September 2026, Fondos BC approved 711 economic supports and 275 credits to strengthen productive activities in sectors such as commerce, services, construction, and manufacturing.
In the Dominican Republic, Monte de Piedad introduced the ‘Impulso Colonial’ program aimed at 400 businesses in Santo Domingo’s Colonial City. The initiative provides financing with an 8% annual interest rate for 250 businesses, alongside training for 350 entrepreneurs and assistance for the formalization of 200 establishments.
In Colombia, the Ministry of Labor launched the ‘Crea Empleo’ strategy. This program offers a subsidy equivalent to 25% of a monthly minimum wage for each new full-time worker hired by micro and small enterprises. The program specifically prioritizes the hiring of youth, women, and adults over the age of 50 to promote social inclusion and formal employment.
