Regional initiatives promote village and community development in Austria and Germany

Regional community development initiatives are gaining momentum in Austria and Germany. In Austria, representatives from the municipality of Loich attended a networking meeting for village and urban renewal in Grafenwörth. The event focused on direct exchange between municipal representatives and decision-makers, including Deputy Governor Stephan Pernkopf, to discuss future challenges and local opportunities. Vice Mayor Hermann Gruber noted the value of personal exchange in finding solutions for the community.

In Germany, the state of Hessen has opened applications for the 39th state-wide competition, ‘Unser Dorf hat Zukunft’ (Our Village has a Future). The competition seeks active village communities with up to 3,000 inhabitants that demonstrate engagement through volunteer work and concrete projects. Hessen's Minister for Home Affairs, Ingmar Jung, emphasized that the goal is to showcase how community commitment makes villages livable and sustainable. The jury will evaluate areas such as social and cultural offerings, infrastructure, digitalization, and green design.
