Regional initiatives support elderly social inclusion in Croatia and Slovenia
Regional initiatives in Croatia and Slovenia are focusing on improving the quality of life and social inclusion for elderly citizens through community-based programs and volunteerism.
In Croatia, the National Foundation for the Development of Civil Society has launched the ‘SENIORI’ pilot program. This initiative involves 60 local retiree associations across nearly all Croatian counties. Supported by approximately 292,687 euros, the program funds workshops, creative activities, and educational sessions designed to promote active aging, mental and physical health, and intergenerational connection.
In Slovenia, the ‘Older for Older’ volunteer program held its annual meeting in Hrastnik. The program relies on volunteers who provide companionship and assistance to help seniors remain in their home environments and reduce social isolation. The gathering emphasized the importance of cooperation between volunteers, retiree associations, and local communities to meet the needs of the elderly.
