Regional journalist Oliver Jacques wins Walkley fellowship

Oliver Jacques, editor of the Region Riverina newspaper, was selected as the sole regional journalist among seven participants for the Walkey Foundation’s Masters & McKenzie Investigative Journalism Fellowship. The two‑day workshop took place in Sydney, bringing together leading Australian investigative reporters Chris Masters, Nick McKenzie and Kate McClymont. Jacques said the experience was “exhilarating and terrifying,” highlighting both the excitement of uncovering injustice and the personal risks journalists face. He praised the presenters for emphasizing the value of regional journalism and recalled Masters’ anecdote about the French secret service’s role in the 1985 sinking of the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior.
