Regional libraries celebrate 50th and 70th anniversaries
Regional cultural institutions in Slovenia and Croatia are celebrating major milestones. The Šentjur Library in Slovenia marked its 50th anniversary of professional librarianship. Director Saša Gaber noted that while the library's organized operations began in 1976 with the hiring of the first full-time librarian, its roots trace back to the Catholic Reading Society founded in 1902. The celebration highlighted the institution's evolution through various locations and technological shifts to meet growing community needs.
In Croatia, the Sesvete Library celebrated 70 years of operation. Director Ira Tuzlančić reflected on the library's growth from modest beginnings to a modern cultural center with multiple branches in Dupac, Selčino, and Jelkovac. The anniversary highlighted long-standing community programs such as 'Kulturni četvrtak' and various poetry initiatives, emphasizing that despite technological advancements, the library remains focused on serving the individual reader.
