Regional developments in Kosovo and North Macedonia

In Kosovo, the National Institute of Public Health has confirmed 147 measles cases between April 16 and August 24, 2026, a figure more than double the total recorded in 2025. The highest number of cases occurred in Pristina (49) and Fushë-Kosova (35). In response, vaccination teams have intensified MMR vaccine efforts, successfully vaccinating 504 children who were behind schedule.

Simultaneously, KEDS has announced planned electricity outages in various regions of Kosovo, including Pristina, Peja, Prizren, Ferizaj, Mitrovica, Gjakova, and Gjilan, due to network maintenance and security investments.

In North Macedonia, the Ministry of Education and Science is reorganizing the school network, which includes the potential closure of 16 rural primary schools due to declining student numbers. This move aims to optimize resources and improve access to modern technology, though it has raised concerns among rural residents regarding travel distances for students. Additionally, in Struga, public transport disruptions threaten to affect over 2,000 students as transporters demand debt settlement and fare increases.

Regarding fiscal matters in North Macedonia, Ministry of Finance data shows state obligations reached approximately 692.5 million euros by the end of June, with debts to the private sector totaling nearly 315.2 million euros.
