Regional social programs expand support for elderly residents

Various regional social initiatives are expanding support for elderly populations in Croatia and Montenegro.

In Rugvica, Croatia, the ‘Dom otvorenog srca’ (Open Heart Home) project has been launched in partnership with the Municipality of Rugvica and the Sveta Katarina Home for the Elderly. Funded by nearly 282,700 euros from the European Union, the program offers free services to residents aged 65 and older. These services include medical gymnastics, cognitive exercises, horticultural programs, and access to a sensory room. The project also provides free door-to-door transportation and professional counseling regarding social and health rights.

In Tivat, Montenegro, the ‘Pomoć u kući’ (Help at Home) program is entering its twentieth year. Supported by a 63,000 euro allocation from the Municipality of Tivat, the initiative is implemented by the Red Cross Tivat. The program provides assistance to 40 households, with trained geronto-helpers assisting with food and medicine procurement, meal preparation, personal hygiene, and household maintenance. The municipality also recently provided a vehicle to ensure services reach the entire territory and facilitate transport to medical appointments.
