Regional sports teams achieve success in Minas Gerais competitions

Athletes from Varginha achieved significant results at the Copa Minas de Natação held in Belo Horizonte from August 21 to 23. The Olímpico Clube/SEMEL Varginha team used the event to mark their return to competition following a holiday period. Notable performers included Mariah Pires, who won three gold medals in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 100m butterfly, and Sofia Helena, who secured gold in the 200m medley. Other medalists included Nicolly Rodrigues, who earned three silver medals.

In separate regional sports news, the Gracie Barra Ouro Branco team saw success at the 8th Copa Profeta de Jiu-Jitsu in Congonhas. Several competitors, including Lucas Fonseca, Tiago Pereira, and Anna Alves, secured titles in their respective categories. The event also featured a controversial moment where athlete Anna Alves had a victory overturned by officials following a post-match review, though the team noted her respectful response to the decision.
