Regional stability efforts highlighted in Togo and Niger
In Togo, approximately 1,500 people gathered in Natchitikpi for a delayed celebration of the yam festival. Beyond cultural festivities, the event served as a platform for social cohesion and public awareness. Authorities used the gathering to urge vigilance against violent extremism and to encourage cooperation with defense and security forces. Additionally, officials provided guidance on managing risks associated with heavy rains and potential flooding.
In Niger, residents of Agadez held a large march and meeting to express support for the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), the government, and the national defense and security forces. The mobilization follows recent events in Niamey on August 28-29, which Governor Ibra Boulama Issa described as an attempt to destabilize state institutions. The Governor called for continued vigilance against disinformation and division as the country pursues national restructuring.
