Regional students collaborate on new HSC health syllabus study day

High school students from Tamworth and the surrounding regional areas recently participated in a collaborative HSC study day at McCarthy Catholic College. The initiative aims to provide regional students with the same collaborative learning opportunities often available to those in metropolitan areas.

Organized by physical education heads James Coleman of Oxley High School and Steph Halpin of McCarthy Catholic College, the event brought together students from several schools, including Tamworth High, Peel, Holy Trinity, Inverell, O'Connor Catholic College Armidale, and St Mary's Gunnedah.

The study day focuses on the new Health and Movement Science syllabus, which is replacing the previous PDHPE course. The event also provided professional learning opportunities for teachers as they prepare for the first cohort of students to sit the new syllabus in 2026.
