Regional transport developments in Abruzzo and Sardinia

In the Abruzzo region, an e-bike sharing service operating across 12 municipalities in the provinces of Teramo and Chieti has surpassed 600,000 kilometers traveled. Launched in August 2024 with ministerial funding of approximately 1.23 million euros, the project is managed by VAIMOO and involves 395 e-bikes and 131 stations. The service, which integrates with urban public transport, has registered over 30,000 users and has reportedly saved 91 tons of CO2.

In Sardinia, political discussions have emerged regarding the potential halt of the airport privatization process. A recent budget maneuver includes 30 million euros intended for the merger of Sardinian airports, which could allow the Regional Government to acquire a 9.23% stake in the management holding company. Former regional council president Michele Pais suggested this move could enable the region to regain strategic control and leadership over its fundamental transport infrastructure.
