Regional updates: Drug raids in Jujuy, military pay hikes, and Costa Rican earthquakes

In Argentina, the Jujuy Police conducted 20 operations between August 14 and August 20 as part of an anti-drug trafficking campaign. The actions resulted in 24 people being detained or held, and the seizure of approximately 574 grams of cocaine and paste, 65 grams of marijuana, scales, and mobile phones across several locations including Libertador General San Martín and Perico.

Additionally, the Argentine government has updated the salary scales for military personnel in the Army, Navy, and Air Force for the months of June, July, and August. The new scale includes a one-time extraordinary payment of 50,000 pesos for August.

In Costa Rica, two consecutive earthquakes struck near the capital, San José, during the early hours of Monday. The first tremor measured 5.4 magnitude at a depth of 7 kilometers in Cascajal de Coronado, followed two minutes later by a 4.8 magnitude quake. While the tremors caused alarm and prompted residents to flee their homes, the National Emergency Commission reported no major injuries or significant material damage, noting only minor infrastructure issues and some landslides on a local road.
