NATO Steadfast Noon exercise involves German Tornado jets in Italy FAST-MOVING
NATO is conducting ‘Steadfast Noon’, a nuclear deterrence exercise involving aircraft from 17 member states. The maneuvers, hosted in Italy, aim to demonstrate the alliance's readiness to defend its territory.
The German Luftwaffe is participating by deploying three Tornado fighter jets from Tactical Air Wing 33 to the Aviano Air Base in northern Italy. These aircraft are typically stationed at Büchel Air Base in Rhineland-Palatinate. While the aircraft are capable of nuclear missions, the exercise specifically utilizes training bombs rather than actual nuclear warheads.
The scale of the exercise is reported to be comparable to the previous year. In Italy, opposition deputy Angelo Bonelli has requested explanations from the Defense Minister, questioning why the Italian Parliament was not formally notified of the maneuvers.
