Regional utility updates: Water shortages in Hungary and heating preparations in Romania
In Hungary, several settlements including Szőlősgyörök, Gyugy, Kisberény, and Öreglak are facing water supply challenges. Due to insufficient capacity in a central well system established in Lengyeltóti, water restrictions have been implemented during summer months. Residents in Szőlősgyörök have reported poor water quality, characterized by high iron content and unpleasant odors, when forced to rely on local wells. To address this, a mobile water treatment unit has been deployed by Dunántúli Regionális Vízmű Zrt. (DRV Zrt.). Local officials are planning a permanent water treatment system valued between 400 and 500 million HUF, though they noted that state funding will be essential for completion.
In Romania, the district heating system in Csíkszereda is preparing for the upcoming heating season. The provider, Goscom Rt., is currently filling the system with softened water, with heating expected to begin in residential buildings early next week. While institutions have already requested the start of services, residential heating can be activated earlier upon request from housing associations. Heating prices remain consistent with last year's rates, with a lower VAT rate applied during the winter period from November to March.
