Regional workshop addresses red palm weevil prevention in Argentina

A regional workshop and field school focused on the prevention, early detection, and control of the Red Palm Weevil (RPW) is being held in Gualeguaychú, Argentina, on October 27 and 28. The initiative aims to integrate technical knowledge and intervention methodologies to combat this invasive exotic species.

The program includes theoretical presentations and field practices at the La Aurora del Palmar Private Natural Reserve and El Palmar National Park. Key participants include the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which will discuss its work in South America, and representatives from Uruguay regarding the current status of the pest in their country.

Local and national authorities, including SENASA, the National Parks Administration, and the Entre Ríos provincial government, will detail current prevention and response plans. The workshop also features urban monitoring inspections and simulations of management procedures on affected specimens.
