Regis Resources gold mine project faces uncertainty

The future of the McPhillamys Gold Project near Blayney, Australia, remains uncertain following a recent environmental decision. Although the mine received conditional approval in March 2023, its progress has been stalled by regulatory hurdles.

In August, Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek placed an Indigenous heritage protection order on the headwaters of the Belubula River. This area is designated as the site for the proposed mine's tailings dams. The order has placed the project on ‘thin ice,’ as the company has yet to extract any gold from the site despite acquiring the project in 2012.
