Registrar of Societies probes Bersatu membership dispute in Perikatan Nasional

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) Malaysia is reviewing a formal complaint lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) regarding its membership status within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. The dispute follows claims by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that Bersatu’s membership automatically lapsed after its president, Muhyiddin Yassin, announced intentions to form a new political alliance.

Bersatu has raised concerns over its exclusion from a PN Supreme Council meeting held on July 16, which finalized seat allocations for the Negeri Sembilan state election. Bersatu officials have accused PAS of taking unilateral actions that infringe upon the rights of component parties and violate the coalition's constitution. In response, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan stated that the party is prepared to provide explanations to the RoS if requested.

The internal friction is compounded by statements from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who described the current state of the PN coalition as “damaged” and “toxic.” While PAS leadership has suggested Bersatu is no longer a member, PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has contradicted this, maintaining that Bersatu remains a component of the coalition.
