Registrar reserves Linda Mwananchi Movement name for 90 days
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has approved the reservation of the name ‘Linda Mwananchi Movement’ (LMM) for a period of 90 days. This decision follows a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) which set aside the Registrar’s previous refusal to reserve the name.
The PPDT determined that the initial decision to decline the application lacked legal justification and violated provisions of the Political Parties Act and the Constitution. Following the tribunal's directive, Registrar and CEO John Cox Lorionokou formally notified the promoters that the name and its abbreviation, LMM, have been approved.
The movement is associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The 90-day reservation period provides the promoters a statutory window to complete the necessary steps to establish the political party.
