Regência community revives traditional jaroba beverage through documentary
The minidocumentary ‘Encantos na Cozinha: O Resgate da Jaroba’, produced by Tabuiaiá Filmes, aims to revive the tradition of making jaroba, a fermented cassava beverage, in the village of Regência, Linhares.
Produced by Hanna Ayres, the film features Dona Darília, a guardian of traditional knowledge, who shares her history and the techniques she learned from her Tupiniquim indigenous grandmother. The project includes workshops where community members, including children and elders, learn to prepare the drink and its gourd containers.
The initiative seeks to preserve ancestral food practices, highlight the therapeutic properties of the beverage, and combat the rising consumption of ultra-processed foods by connecting younger generations with local cultural heritage.
