Regulatory inspections in Poland reveal widespread retail and restaurant violations

Recent inspections by Polish regulatory bodies have revealed widespread non-compliance in both the retail and hospitality sectors.

Trade Inspection audits of catering establishments found irregularities in 80% of inspected locations. Common issues included failure to comply with pricing obligations, use of uncertified measuring devices, and violations of alcohol laws. In some instances, restaurants were found to be substituting high-quality ingredients with cheaper alternatives or providing smaller portions than advertised. Specific violations were noted at Hotel Cieplice in Jelenia Góra regarding ingredient substitution and packaging fees, and at Hotel Mercure Jelenia Góra regarding uncertified scales.

Simultaneously, the State Labour Inspection (PIP) reported significant breaches of the Sunday trading ban. After inspecting over 2,200 facilities, inspectors found that 63.5% of large-scale supermarkets were operating in violation of the law. The scale of irregularities in smaller retail outlets has also seen a notable increase. The Ministry of Labour has indicated that legislative changes may be considered if current inspections fail to effectively deter these practices.
