Regulatory requirements for business travel and fleet management
Companies are increasingly utilizing specialized platforms to manage business travel and vehicle fleets, though these tools must navigate complex legal and regulatory frameworks.
In France, businesses with at least 50 employees on a single site must address mobility within mandatory annual negotiations. This includes implementing employer mobility plans that analyze both home-to-work and professional travel. Furthermore, travel time between work sites is considered effective working time, requiring financial or rest-based compensation if travel exceeds the usual commute.
Regarding vehicle fleet management, the use of geolocation is strictly regulated by the CNIL. Employers cannot use continuous GPS tracking for theft prevention; instead, they should limit data to the last known position. Additionally, using geolocation to monitor individual speed limits or as a primary method for tracking working hours is prohibited, as these functions must respect employee privacy and use less intrusive methods where possible.
