Rehabilitation shows significant benefits for chronic back pain sufferers
Chronic back pain remains a widespread health issue, affecting approximately 15.5 percent of adults according to the Burden 2020 study. This condition often leads to significant physical limitations, sleep disturbances, and exhaustion.
A nationwide evaluation involving over 17,500 patients across 123 inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation clinics indicates that orthopedic rehabilitation can significantly improve both physical and mental well-being. The multimodal approach—combining movement, physiotherapy, physical therapies, training, and psychological elements—showed particular effectiveness for patients who were highly restricted at the start of treatment.
On a scale of 0 to 100, patients reported an average treatment outcome of 70. While results vary by facility, the study suggests that patients should utilize their right to choose and compare clinics to optimize their recovery. Additionally, research is examining the efficacy of lumbar bandages as part of multidisciplinary treatment concepts for non-specific lower back pain.
