REIAMA urges practical action to solve Malawi energy supply issues

The Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA) is calling for practical, action-oriented solutions to address the country’s ongoing energy supply challenges. During a press briefing in Lilongwe, REIAMA President Brave Khwima Mhonie emphasized the need for a mindset shift, urging stakeholders to move beyond discussions and implement concrete interventions to stabilize electricity and energy access.

To facilitate this, the 2026 Malawi National Energy Conference is scheduled to take place in Salima from September 30 to October 2. Under the theme ‘Powering Growth: Mainstreaming Energy Across Sectors’, the event is expected to host approximately 300 participants from various industries, including agriculture, health, banking, and education. The conference aims to showcase successful initiatives, such as solar-powered irrigation and clean cooking technologies, and discuss methods for scaling these solutions nationwide.

Minister of Energy Jean Mathanga is expected to attend the conference, which seeks to integrate energy considerations into the planning and decision-making processes of all economic sectors.
