Reinaldo Lara to be formalized for vehicle import fraud in Chile

Chilean prosecutors are set to formalize Reinaldo Lara, owner of the HDR automotive company, for an alleged fraud involving the importation of adapted vehicles for people with disabilities. The case involves approximately 32 victims who paid an average of 8 million pesos each for specialized vehicles that were never delivered.

The total amount involved in the reported scam is roughly 250 million pesos. Victims in Concepción reported that after paying for the vehicles and freight, they received no cars and no refunds. Some victims noted that the company used legal tax franchises to facilitate the transactions.

Spokespersons for the affected group have expressed hope for a conviction to subsequently pursue civil liability and hold customs authorities accountable for lack of oversight.
