Reinhard Mey reaches number one on German album charts
German singer-songwriter Reinhard Mey has reached number one on the Official German Album Charts with his 30th studio album, ‘Schatzhauser’. At 83 years old, Mey becomes the oldest national artist to achieve a number-one position on the charts.
Unlike his previous releases, which were typically published in May, ‘Schatzhauser’ was released in September. The album features a minimalist production style, consisting solely of Mey’s voice and guitar. This marks the fifth time in his career that he has reached the top spot in Germany.
Mey’s career spans nearly 60 years, beginning in the late 1960s when he gained popularity in France performing as ‘Frédérik Mey’. He later became a prominent figure in the German music scene, evolving from a performer in small venues to a celebrated musical legend.
