Reinhold Messner's daughter discusses family estrangement

Magdalena Messner has spoken publicly about the ongoing estrangement between her father, mountaineer Reinhold Messner, and his four children. The silence between them has lasted for approximately two years, following a period of close professional collaboration.

Magdalena, who manages the six Messner Mountain Museums, expressed regret over the lack of communication and stated that she still does not know the exact reason for the rift. While she continues to manage the museums and feels her father's influence within them, she described the situation as a source of deep grief.

The conflict appears to be linked to a 2019 decision in which Reinhold Messner transferred a significant portion of his assets to his children, including real estate and Schloss Juval, as an early inheritance. Reinhold Messner has suggested that the transfer led to disputes over the distribution of wealth, stating that he felt “disposed of” as the focus shifted to who received more.
