Reinsurance industry sees record capital inflows from markets
The reinsurance industry is seeing a significant influx of capital from financial markets, with dedicated reinsurance capital projected to reach a record USD 705 billion by the end of 2026. Laurent Rousseau, CEO of Global Capital & Advisory at Marsh Re, noted that capital markets have transitioned from being visitors to permanent residents within the industry. This growth includes expected records of USD 575 billion in traditional capital and USD 130 billion in alternative capital.
Despite this growth, industry experts highlight challenges regarding market volatility and the need for investor education on the nature of insurance risks. As capacity increases, the market faces intense competition and pressure on rates. Analysts suggest that to remain successful in a softening market, reinsurers must move beyond offering simple capacity and instead focus on innovation, structured solutions, and collaborative risk management to address complex client needs.
